FQC INVITE ALL FERTILISER COMPANIES TO JOIN FERTMARK INITIATIVE

FERTILISER QUALITY COUNCIL TO INVITE ALL FERTILISER COMPANIES TO JOIN FERTMARK INITIATIVE

The Fertiliser Quality Council (FQC) will write to all fertiliser companies not currently part of the Fertmark quality scheme inviting them to join.

FQC Chair, Neil Barton, said he was concerned with some of the claims made by fertiliser companies that didn't provide adequate and independent verification.

"Farmers know that fertilisers displaying the Fertmark tick have been independently audited.  They are assured that what the label says is in the product will be there.  There is no such assurance if a product doesn't contain the Fertmark tick", Neil Barton said.

"In the current market farmers cannot afford to spend one cent on any product that will not give an adequate return.   That is why the FQC supports a regime of soil testing, nutrient management using Overseer and applying Fertmark fertilisers with Spreadmark accredited operators.

"That's not the way of the future that is the here and now.

"What I would like to see is any company that is not currently part of the Fertmark scheme applying to join.  If their products can withstand an independent audit they have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

"The Fertmark tick has a proud record in the provision of quality fertilisers and I look forward to it continuing to do so," Neil Barton said.
