FQC is to convene an expert working group to establish agreed methods of expressing Fertmark fertiliser trial results
The Fertiliser Quality Council (FQC) is to convene an expert working group to establish agreed methods of expressing Fertmark fertiliser trial results.
What this will mean to farmers is that any research results contained in advertising will be comparing apples with apples.
The group will be moderated by Emeritus Professor Russ Tilman of Massey University.
FQC chair, Neil Barton, said that the move was an important one, giving real security to farmers purchasing fertilisers.
"Once the new protocol is in place farmers will know that trial results from one Fertmark fertiliser company will be measured in the same way as trials from another Fertmark fertiliser company," Neil Barton said. "What that means is that the advertisements will be robust and accurate.
"It is to the Fertmark fertiliser companies' credit that they are supporting such a move, ensuring accuracy and conformity in reporting fertiliser trials.
"It will now be even more important for farmers to purchase only those fertilisers with the Fertmark tick. They are marketed by companies who have agreed to the formation of the expert working group and the subsequent standardisation of trial reporting.
"Those fertilisers that don't have the Fertmark accreditation are neither independently audited as to quality nor are they subject to the reporting rules regarding trial results.
"I would have thought that would make even more farmers insist on Fertmark fertilisers," Neil Barton said.
Registered Fertmark fertilisers can be found on the FQC website, [link] .
